2011 Ford Edge

The Ford Edge is a midsize crossover with comfortable seating for five. The 2011 model year expands on the 2010, with the introduction of the upscale Sport model.

The 2011 Edge is available in four models: SE, SEL, Limited, and Sport. This base SE trim comes standard with 17-inch aluminum wheels,  power windows and doors, battery saver, MyFord, capless fuel filler, audio input jack, rear window defroster with dual-speed wiper and washer, privacy glass on rear doors, chrome grille, front-wheel drive, four-wheel disc ABS, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and crash alert system. Optional features for the SE include automatic headlamps with wiper activation, reverse sensing system, keyless entry keypad, roof rack, SIRIUS satellite radio, and auto-dimming interior rearview mirror.

The SEL upgrades to 18-inch aluminum wheels, SIRIUS satellite radio, dual-zone electronic automatic temperature controls, auto-dimming interior rearview mirror, a six-way power driver’s seat, automatic headlamps with wiper activation, reverse sensing system, chrome door handles, body-color rear spoiler, heated mirrors, and easy fold remote seat release. Available features for the SEL model include ambient lighting, rear view camera, fold-flat passenger seat, rain sensing front wipers, all-wheel drive, Panoramic Vista Roof, heated front seats, voice activated navigation, Ford SYNC, and MyFord Touch. Available packages include the Vision Package, which features the blind spot information system, cross traffic alert, and rain-sensing front wipers, and the Class II Trailer Tow Package, which allows the Edge to tow up to 3,500 lbs.

The Limited trim has 18-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels, ambient lighting, rear view camera, Sony audio system with HD radio, fold-flat passenger seat, universal garage door opener, MyFord Touch, Ford SYNC, 10-way heated power driver’s seat, 6-way heated power passenger’s seat, driver’s seat memory, color-keyed door handles and spoiler, and rain-sensing front wipers. Adaptive cruise control, collision warning with brake support, and High-Intensity Discharge headlamps are optional on the Limited model. Like the SEL, vision and tow packages are also available, along with a driver entry package, which includes push-button start.

The Sport model is new for 2011 and features 22-inch polished aluminum wheels and also boasts sport-tuned suspension, black leather-trimmed seats, a unique headlamp and tail lamp appearance treatment, and 4-inch chrome oval dual exhaust tips. The Sport model has the same options available as the Limited trim, including the driver entry package.

The SE, SEL, and Limited models have a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 285 horse power and 253 pound-feet of torque. It’s connected to a six-speed automatic transmission. The Edge Sport has a 3.7-liter V6 that pumps out 305 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic is standard for the Sport, but is also has a manual shift control. EPA estimated fuel economy is 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway.

Standard safety features on all Ford Edge models includes anti-loc brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, and blind-spot mirrors. There is also a programmable Ford Mykey system, which helps make the Edge safer for teen drivers.
